If I use a 600K pot with a Shure CR (1.2k) would that effectively reduce the full throw on the Pot? That is, I have 1 mic with a 600K Pot and find that I go from full volume to zero by turning the pot 50 percent? Half the range I am at zero volume?

I have another mic with a 250K pot and have full control thorughout the entire range.

Thank you,

You won't be at zero volume but you'll be close. 250K is ideal. You'll find 500K usable but a bit sensitive. 1M is more sensitive still - the useful range of the knob will be in the 1st 1/4 turn.

Thanks Greg...I had a feeling that was the case.

I Also have another mic with a crystal 151 and a 600K pot and find also I dont have full control. I guess the same is true, it should be a 1M for that 151.

Are you sure you have a 600K pot? 600K is a very unusual value. 500K is very common - next step up is 1M.

600K would be OK for the crystal - but 1M is better. You can try it with either element - even with clip leads - won't hurt anything.
