Recently been lookin back over David Barretts "Big Boy Jam" Practice Song. I'm going to get it up to par and post a vid. It is a super fun song to play as an (exercise)---has anyone else ever learned the tune, there is something about it that just makes it feel good to play it...

I did Barrett's "Big Boys Jam" when I was first learning to play. I found it very difficult to master, and was never able to play it at the speed Barrett does. Good Luck!

Great tune, not just as an excercise, either. Terrific solos which can be cut and pasted into many standard twelve bars. I keep going back to it, and get it closer each time; it never seems to go stale for me. I find the head the most challenging. As someone who switches from Tongue block to pucker for most bends, it shows the deficiency in this method (I should learn to bend and TB at the same time)

Jbird...I know what you mean- it goes by at 120 bpm and some of those riffs can snick up on you right quick...

didJ...I agree! You know David wrote that instrumental while in his 20's. It blew my mind that someone had the skills to do that. I called him years ago and asked him if he or any other Pro ever play it on the bandstand and he told me it wasn't a song, but a strategically written set of exercises (riffs) to help the student get better at harmonica. I told him I thought it was brilliant and to my ears was as good as any instrumental I have ever heard - but he insisted it was written as an exercise an he felt it was not the type of song I thought it was, go figure - anyway it proves his "genius" as a musician to write a harmonica instrumental that intense!

Tom...Yes, "grand junction jump" is cool as heck too..

For those who never heard it here it is...

Didjcripey: My main move for bending while tongue blocking is to close my jaw a little and push my tongue a little harder against the harp.
