In another thread i posted re the two mikes i picked up at a market. The one on the left has that awkward grill so I've cut it down to a better size. The element is from an Akai DM 13(which is a great Harp mike)and the 'gasket' is a rubber plumbing fitting which is a perfect fit for the element and the shell.Plumbing shops have all sorts of useful things for DIY tinkerers. Its interesting how a different mike shell can affect the sound of an element. The Akai has a great punchy mid range but in the new housing it has lost some of that but gained a lot more bottom end(shame that ;-)) I went with the Torpedo rather than the Astaic because i don't have access to a drill press and so drilling for the switchcraft would likely end up a disaster. So i now have an Astatic T3 shell for sale. What i'd rather do is swap it for a good C/M,or C/R element. My postage and maybe some cash from my side? Our dollar is only worth .75c US so be gentle with me ;-)

regarding the T3; i think that a round file is probably the best way to enlarge the slot to take a switchcraft screw on connector. A bit of work, but requires no special gear and pretty hard to stuff up.
For what you'll get for the shell, and what it may be worth in future, I reckon you'd do better to hang on to it, and make it another project. Be careful though, you might end up with a new hobby. ---------- Lucky Lester
