Just thought I'd share my version of Voodoo Child. This is from the first night out with my band Electric Witness. The guitar player didn't show so I was doing triple duty... guitar, harp, and vocal, but I didn't bother with guitar on this one. Sorry the video is so dark.

I think it's awesome that you actually covered this. I've recently started working on this song as well; although I didn't have intentions of playing out.

First, the good. I love your ambition and overall cojones for going out and performing especially without a guitar player. You did a good job of recreating some Hendrixy licks at certain points especially that kind of phase effect that you did with the slow warble on the 4/5 that you bend down.

The bad. I really wanted you to nail the main riff, but you didn't. I'm guessing maybe you relied on your guitar player for this.

Try this:
+6 -5 -4 -5 3' 3' +4 3' -2
+6 -5 -4 +6 +6 -5
+6 -5 -4 -5 3' 3' +4 '3 -2
+6 -5 -4 +6 +6 -5

3' = 3 Draw Half Step Bend
+# = Blow
-# = Draw

Nice work. I enjoy this stuff too, 3rd Stone etc.
My opinion (yeah, just mine) is that this song should not be covered. Yeah, SRV did, but given what he could accomplish with a guitar I'm thinking there was a reason.

Hey thanks for your replies guys!

Ridge - Thank you for the for the specific feedback and the tab. You are absolutely correct about the riff, it was going to be the guitar players job, and yes I did pretty much destroy it! haha.

Littoral - Thank you, I understand your opinion. It is a song I continue to work on and play and continue to get positive feedback on, so I keep playing it. :) I am definitely not Hendrix or Stevie, but I love the song so much I have to keep playing it! It's funny you mention Third Stone because I throw a little Third Stone guitar solo section into the middle of my version of Mona... it's for fun.

Since that gig I have been playing as a one man band, creating live loops, and have continued to work on this song especially the riff!

Thanks again.
