a great musician and drummer for the band passed away today of throat cancer...only 2 members still remain...talked to him briefly in nashville @ a book signing of wheels of fire

Probably the first drummer I ever saw on stage, nearly fifty years ago. He'll be missed.

Here I am, 125 miles from home, and no Band in the car (traveling with my wife and daughter - neither of whom appreciate The Band). I think this warrants a stop at a music store...

He'll be missed by millions of fans, but condolences especially to to those who knew him personally. These are sad days in American music.

we played Cripple Creek for him at practice tonight, and will again at saturday's gig.
