I haven't bought a Marine Band for a long time. After reading lots about the MB Deluxe and Manji I decided to buy one of each in the key of D. Both are nice harps but the MB Deluxe is easily the best OOTB Hohner I've ever played...AND it has the vibration thing goin' that MBs have. I love that sound and feeling. Here's the question:Do the Deluxes have additional reed work over a regular Marine Band? Or is the extra cost simply for the screw together construction, smoothed edges and sealed comb? Is the quality pretty consistent on the Deluxes? Thanks, Jay

I like the Deluxe and also the Crossover much better than the 1896. IMHO a regular Marine Band needs a LOT of work to meet or exceed either of those 2 out of the box. I believe that I read that both are built to closer tolerances than the 1896, but I can't verify if that is really the case. And the sealed comb and screws are a great improvement. ----------

I haven't tried a Marine Band Deluxe in years. The ones I owned played very well. In my opinion the new Marine Band 1896 with the sealed comb is the best out of the box harmonica I have ever played.

I didn't know there was a new Marine Band. But if it has nails still, I won't even try it.
I own two MB Deluxe, one in E, and one in G for which I had to replace the reedplates (they finally arrived in my usual shop after 6 months !). They both play beautifully, very cool sound and probably the easiest harps I ever played, very responsive.
