Thinking of trying some different pre-amp tube combinations in my Sonny Jr Avenger. I want to drop the V1 position to a 12 AU7 and put a 5751 in the PI position. Tube line up would then be 5751, 12AU7, 12AU7 from left to right. Anyone know of potential issues with plate load resistors and such by installing a 12AU7 in V1 on these ?

V1 (input stage, farthest right on an Avenger)is the safest place to put a 12AU7, electronically speaking.
This is because the supply voltages here are lower than the PI, so if a 12AU7 was fine in the PI, it'll be fine in V1. ---------- www.myspace.com/markburness

Thanks for the tip. I figured as much, but I wanted to confirm,as I know some amps could have issues. I appreciate the response.

Just wondering.... isn't this just the opposite setting from the one recommended by Gary Onofrio? Furthermore, AU in V1 might considerably reduce the 'oomph' of the amp.... ---------- Skinny Dog

I thought these things were supposed to be the be-all and end-all of harp amps. Why would you need to swap tubes in them?

I don't necessarily need to swap. I just want to experiment with different settings. I didn't know there was such a thing as a be-all and end-all of harp amps. The thought is also that it shouldn't really reduce the overall "oomph" of the amp if the PI is changed to a 5751. I'm happy with this amp overall and just want to try different settings/sounds.
