When I hit austin my guitar couldn't keep up with the volume they played down there. I was given a 1963 jazzmaster that Stevie Vaughn got from Lonnie Mack when they recorded Lightning strikes back. I don't use it much with the 1 man band because of the inherent brightness of fenders. But I have figured out how to get it sounding pretty good on the bass side of the strings. I am in a new phase of recording -experimenting with new setups, settings. I am not there yet but continue on the road to making good sounding recordings. Sometimes, like with playing an instrument, you have to go backwards to move forward.
This guitar has played so many live gigs via lonnie, stevie, me, and most everyone who was anyone in the austin scene. It has killer live gig mojo on it. I did a set tonight that felt like it was a time warp back to the mid 80's in a sweaty, non airconditioned austin club. I think this guitar, which was my only gigging guitar for 25 years has taken to the closet since I got a tokai copy of a gibson 335. IT has such warm bass. But I think the tokai may gathering some dust for awhile. You can't beat vintage fender tone with good mojo on it! Walter
show me all your moves how the blues scene has changed oh sally I use to play harp with sonny rhodes tumbling out of control-graveyard ahead Im gonna have some fun tonight

AV8R: you can hear it on the songs in my post by clicking on one of the icons in my signature. They are with my 1 man band set up and mainly I play rythm guitar. Here are some with it on lead at a live gigs with a real band behind. I sing, play guitar and harp on these. the first 1 I do a dueling harp and lead guitar thing I came up with years ago. These are pretty raw and hell bent. I have more mellow tone songs with it but don't know where they are amoung the 4,000 odd songs I have on my site. Walter

That axe is beautiful and in the recordings has the fender tone for sure. I've seen that photo in another post you made and three thing still stand out, The matching hat/suit colours to the guitar colors Noone is watching the football game on the big screen, you've captured their whole attention and In case you're playing gets smokin' hot there's a fire extinguisher on the table behind you Fantastic image! Speaks volumes. Thanks ---------- "Keep it in your mouth" - XHarp

XHarp: thanks! I never looked close at the photo. Most people who know me via the net know a guy that sits in a studio for hours a day recording music alone with himself. They don't know the other me that has spent almost 40 years playing clubs. People are longing for honest connections. I love connecting with people. Thanks for pointing that out. Walter
here is one from a party with the jazzmaster and my real band behind me. It has energy similar to the song in the picture.
all tore up
here are a few from a gig playing to the middle school students at the school I taught at in California. I used a bunch of them in my backup band for this gig. she ran me out of town
got to go
is this what they call the blues
couple more pictures from that gig. I was with the sean carney band and teeny Tucker and her band and members of james cottens band. We had various members of these bands backing me for a set. It was an after hours gig following a blues festival here. Gene"sax" Walker and I posed together for a lot of photos that day. He played the beatles tour with the opening band King curtis. He has played with just about every great bluesman of the 40's-present.

I am so glad forums like this allow us to see these things. It gives us access to the magic and theatrics of yourself, BBQ Bob, and of course the modern blues players like Adam, Jason and Jimi Lee. It's a great time to still be locked in the blues.
