Hi folks, getting ready to do some busking and wondering if there's a way to measure the power draw of my VHT SP6 or Fender Champ 600, with the intention of running one of them off of a car-starter power pack with a 110v inverter? I have a SS battery amp for busking, but I'd like to use one of the tube amps since I like how they sound so much more.

The power pack batteru will have an amp/hour rating (at 12v), so I'm hoping that will help me calculate how long it will run an amp before running out. Any suggestions are welcome!

I have a device called a "Watts up" that I bought at Fry's. You plug it into the wall and plug your device into it and it will tell you the wattage it is currently using as well as how may watts the device has consumed since you last reset it. This would give you some data to help detemine how much battery you will need. Unfortunatly, this method would not account for the losses in the inverter. You are going to loose about 10% though the inverter, more if the inverter has a much larger capacity than the amount of power you are drawing.

Is your inverter a sin wave inverter? Most inexpesive ones are triangle wave. I am not sure how a tube amp will respond to triangle wave input. Others here may know how input wave form affects a tube amp.

The sticker inside my Champion 600 says 35 Watts @120 Volts. VHT sould be similar.
