Hi All,
I'm being made redundant at the end of next month and am planning to work for myself. I teach Food Hygiene and Health and Safety courses and am lucky enough to be able to take all of my current customers with me.
I'm a bit technically slow and so i'm hoping someone might be able to help me.
I want to set up a new email address and pay to get a simple website produced. As presently i'm working for a company all of this has been done for me.
My question is; where do i go to set up an email address and produce a website. I'm in Brighton UK although i guess its a global market.
What should i watch out for, what are the pitfalls and the big one - can anyone recommend a trustworthy company/ person.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.
Regards
James

Hi James.
First off get yourself a google account and sign up to Googlemail. I use it and find it just about covers everything I need to do with email/attachments etc. etc.
Once you have a Google account, you automatically get a YouTube account too because they are owned by Google also. It could be useful later if you want to post videos.
Once you have a google account, you will also be able to use Googlesites which is a website building area on google. You will be able to build your own simple website there and it will automatically be published by google and made public.
Trust me, it's all totally free and fairly easy to use although a bit of reading is required to get the best out of it all.
I have 9 websites up and running with only one using google sites. It's a small community site that I set up. The other sites I have are nothing to do with Google as they are sites I wrote/manage and maintain.
I have quite a technical background and can help you if you like. It would be fairly easy as I'm in London and could sign into your account on Google and iron out any problems. Once I've done that, you just change your password and I won't have access.
Just noticed you are already on YouTube so you can probably use that logon and sign-in for your Google mail account.
If you want to talk about it on the phone over the coming weekend, let me know and I can send you my number. It may all sound daunting but believe me it's quite easy once you get up and running.

Wow, sincerely Tookatooka thanks so very much.
I am quite taken back by your generosity - thanks so very much.
I would really like to take up the kind offers.
Ha ha - truthfully you have caught me a bit unprepared. I scribbled a few notes on ideas for the website etc. but i have nothing clear yet.
Can i take a bit of time to get my ideas straight as it worries me that I will waste your time as i havent really thought things through.
The website looks great - clear and concise.
Again, thanks so very much
Regards
James

@bluemoose. You know all about that bluemoose. You've helped a lot of people on here with your toil over your Webbrain. I've used it quite a bit in the past and although I did say thankyou before I'd like to say THANKYOU again. It's an awesome tool.
@James, Take your time James. Work to the KISS principle. (Keep It Simple Stupid). Everything is getting so complicated these days that we're just chasing our tails. Computers are here to work for us, we shouldn't be working for the darned computer.
Get your thoughts sorted and send some details to me and we'll find a way forward. If you go to my account profile on here you'll find my email.
I noticed you have posted stuff on YouTube. To be honest if you can find your way around YouTube you should find it all pretty straightforward. Trouble is there is so much distracting detail on web pages now people get confused and don't know which way to turn.

And another thing @James;
Here's a little site that I created using Google sites for the last "MBH Blow Your Brains Out Challenge".
https://sites.google.com/site/mbhbybo3/
Just to show you what can be done with it.
