To any forum members in Southern California:
Jason Ricci will be playing the 1st set, approx. 8-9:30pm, at my buddy Cadillac Zack's Blue Monday Party March 19. It's happening at the Maui Sugar Mill Saloon,18389 Ventura Bl., Encino, CA. From 9:30 on it's an open blues jam; come on down, it would be nice to see some more harp players there. Zack hates loud guitar wankers as much as we do, but sometimes he has to let them play; after all, it is an OPEN blues jam.

Cadillac Zack is a beautiful person and a fine guitar player. I hope to swing by there in a few weeks.

BTW is this a small venue where it might be possible to meet Ricci? I think I'd sh** my pants. Do I need to reserve a table or anything?

@Patrick Barker
It's just a little bar, nothing fancy; you don't need to reserve a table, just get there early!

I've watched a few sets from Cadillac Zacks jam on YouTube. The big question is will that guy be present. I've watched a Kim Wilson performance and a Steve Freund performance. I have to check to see if he caught the Eddie C Campbell show.

go have a smoke with jason. light his ciggy and have a real story to tell your grandkids, patrick! "jason who, grandpa?"
(or did jason go all in and quit smoking while in rehab?)
jason would probably appreciate some youtube vids being posted. it is good advertising.

I'll do my best to find you! My blues guitar friend and I hope to participate in the jam session- should I bring my amp and mic?

@patrick: my former guitarist had a list of rules.

number 1 was: Always bring an amp.

by which he meant, always be prepared to play, without relying on what might or night be available from others. better to bring it and not need it than to need it and not have brought it.

I heard Jason play a similar set in New Orleans at the Mark Hummell blowout, and that effect sounded much like a steel drum. We all love the blues, and Chicago vintage amp tone, but let me tell you, the lively electronic funk and reggae stuff really lit it up.

OT: I took a trip to the Middle East two years ago, and was having tea with a young Bedouin dude in Jordan's Wadi Rum desert, as he explored what I had on my iPhone. He had never heard of Bob Marley. He played Get Up, Stand Up over and over again and questioned me about the lyrics. I believe I may have started the Arab Spring.

I love hearing Jason play Driftin in first position at 6:00 in Kingleys first video. Bb harp. Way cool!
Great to see him out performing. Band sounds great too.

Kudzu - My pleasure. I agree the band are working very hard. It would have been nice to be there in person to hear Jason play. Still maybe one day either he'll get to the UK or I'll get to the States.

I like Jason's economy of phrasing, separated by those pauses. Allows band to build and ebb/flow behind him.

Pretty good band, too.

I tell you what, I got that excitement watching those vids that I only got many years ago in London, seeing John Mayall with Clapton and all the vibe that was then.

But this is now, it's urgent, it's on fire and it's f'ing brilliant!!

Just opened an email. Jason is going to be playing in Burbank (about 10 minutes away from me) as part of a benefit (with lots of other great blues acts) for Candye Kane on Sunday April 29.
Man, I am SO there!

Thanks for the info! Not quite as close to UCLA though... I'll be there if midterm season isn't to harsh and I can get a ride.
