IMO this is the final step in the musical journey that leads you to the first step in becoming a true artist-self contained in need of nothing from the world but your own self to make the sounds of your dreams. By groove I mean when you play a song, it is all yours and it all comes together effortlessly. No concerns with sounding like others or being critical of your playing. Just pure flow without concerns. I use to marvel at the old bluesmen as they played their technically simple stuff that was so groove soaked that I just had to dance all by myself to it or go nuts. Now after almost 50 years of making music I feel like I am begining to enter that realm especially as a 1 man band. Tonights set was special. I felt Louisiana Red come in and guide me. He passed away recently and was my main musical mentor. I also feel like I am coming to the skill level of capturing my music as it sounds. On top of all this a package is due tomorrow full of customized harps a bay area player/customizer has so kindly put togehter with my way of playing in mind. I feel like I ready to take to new places with these harps. These are good days for sure! Walter
I got the blues bad a winter with no snow sometimes women are hard to live with (got a stuck reed on this one) grab life

It must be an ART, an inner awareness, whether learned by study and observation, Or the player just intuitively understands how to make people FEEL the "beat and groove" and ultimately make them MOVE!

Hi Frank: What I have found it to be is an inner drive that superceedes the fear of failure/not getting to that spot. Most people I meet in life don't have that inner drive card that dominates their being. No knock on that, juat an observation I make regularly. IF you want it bad enough - you won't stop till you get it or find it type of resolve I suppose?

That is how I define talent. The number of failures, sacrifices, etc, one makes to achieve a goal is something that seems only to happen when that inner drive has a -no way is anybody gonna stop me mentality. It happens with having to breathe and eat. Very similar to what I experience with my music- my body and soul simply have to have it or I believe it will die. This has led my life to being built around my music. A very simple thing to see once one can look at the course objectively. A "spiritual awakening" so to speak - giving you the power to overcome any and all obstacles!
