Got my new VHT and bought the recommended Valves to do a swap. I have successfully done the preamp tube but i can't seem to get the existing power amp tube out?It seems very reluctant to come out and i don't want 'force' it. Is there a 'trick' to this or is it just a matter of using more direct pull on the tube? I've never done a tube swp before so i am a bit nervous about breaking something Even just the new preamp tube has made a big difference to my ears. TIA

If you look at the power tube it has some metal tabs (clips) holding it in place at the top. Very gently lift one of the clips up (only very slightly), being careful not to bend it. Then gently wiggle the power tube whilst exerting a gentle downward pull. This will free the tube. Just take it very easy and go softly with it.
Hope this helps.

Grasp the power tube around the black plastic base, see if you can get a little circular rocking action as you wiggle the tube out? Might not be easy because the socket will be new & tight.
Don't pull it by the glass envelope, watch out that you don't clunk it against something like a speaker magnet & smash it. Firm, but GENTLE is the key.
If it really won't budge, leave it there. ---------- www.myspace.com/markburness

Success! Thanks guys.Ask a question and get n answer in 5 minutes.I wish i could buy you a beer. For the record the only suitable Tubes i could buy locally were an Electro harmonix 6072A/12AY7)and a JJ 6V6S. Very happy with the result, less prone to feedback, fatter bottom but the best improvement is that the amp just sounds 'smoother'less harsh with the volume up. Cheers
