Cheers lads, i actually allready have this version but it's proper cheesey, it sounds like it's being played by a middle aged child molester with a comb over and B.O. Has anyone got one that really ROCKS?
Fair enough, Yeah I think it's probably not so easy to find what you want. Th1 above was sent me from a call I made a year ago on a forum. It's the only 1 I got. I ended up just stepping on an original recording. I noticed this clip on bootube:
I particularly like the Lightnin Hopkins version. It rocks in my humble opinion:
I have not used it as a backing track, however, so can't help with key or position off the top of my head.
Here is one of my favorite versions of all, but I'm sure you've heard it. Muddy Waters with Little Walter, in E with an A harp if my list is right ;-):
Johncn: Thanks for posting that video. It was the era I was playing with Lightning- I remember the suit! He never used a wah wah though. Than man could get a crowd moving by just smiling. He was the definition of the less notes but the right ones are right on everytime. Love your stuff on YouTube. Lightnin' really has the understatement on phrasing down pat, and was "what you see is what you get", and authentic. I think he is one of the all time greats, and often overlooked.
Were you with his touring band, or also on recordings? I think I have most of his stuff in one format or another.
Thanks, and keep up the beat! Maybe I'll catch you live one of these days.
Johncn: thanks and I agree on LH. He had no touring band at the point I intersected with him. I would back him up when he played tramps in NYC. He picked up bands from town to town and would come in with suit on and that black strat. the club provided an amp which he often turned around to the wall. That was really hard life because often the backing musicians were clueless to his thing (so he told me). He didn't make enough $ to carry a band. A guy sent me a bootleg recording off the mixing board at tramps but it wasn't me on harp. My favorite moment was one night when he played that strat(unamplified) in the dressing room and I blew harp. We drank a bottle of segrams. He told me about playing for the queen of england and it was too cold for him to back overseas. He prefered the heat. Where do you live? I am outside of Columbus Ohio for now. Walter
