i saw that gindick is having one of his jam camps the following weekend of adam's HCH fest. (we dont need to revisit the ruckus that move started.)

but he's adding a twist. he is having a one day, mini jam camp on the monday after the HCH.

is anybody here going?

Sounds like Gindick is "trolling for customers" off of Adam's event. (koff)

i was hoping to make adam's gig this year, finally.
i thought extending my trip for another day would be cool to hit gindick's camp and would be fun.
i remember the ruckus and split that happened last year(?) between the 2.
i think they had found some common ground, too, if i remember correctly.
i even saw there was dialogue between jeff silverman and jon on a fb site about jon coming to the HCH and thought , hopefully, all bad feelings had been taken care of.
with adam's post, i am going to assume that is not the case. if i can make it to the hill country, it will be till sunday only.

I plan to go to HCH. Hope you can make it Eharp. I have no plans to go to the one day event in Clarksdale.

Having actually experienced both HCH and Jon's camps, it is my opinion that there is not a risk of one hurting the business of the other. I think they are very good products, each with its own clientele, with some positive additive crossover. It's like how they've shown that having a Wendy's and a Burger King right next door improves the returns of both businesses.

The folks who go to both, ( there's only a handful, mind you) seem to love getting so much out of one trip. I've heard of people ordering a Whopper, and then grabbing mcDonalds fries, but most do one or the other and that's cool too. My impression of the one-day camp is that it's placed after HCH to catch folks for the sake of the charity. Caveats: these are my opinions, based on my experiences and on my respect and admiration for both Jon and Adam. What's between them is just that.

Rev. Sun Myung Gussow, I think you should release your disciples to attend this event. It's for a good cause, after all.

Jon and I had a nasty and very public dispute several years ago that ended up being prosecuted partly through this forum. I've let it go. Jon is determined to do what he wants to do vis a vis camp scheduling, and at this point I've come to (relative) peace with the idea that Jon is just going to to what he wants to do.

The only thing that Jon can't do at this point is attend Hill Country Harmonica, or convince Jeff and me that we're supposed to like him despite his shenanigans, which include a final threatening email he sent to me before we broke off communications for good. He's made it clear in several ways--through emails, through posts to Jeff's Facebook page--that he'd like to attend HCH. We keep hoping that if we just ignore his entreaties, he'll figure out that his threats have been duly noted and that he's not welcome at Foxfire Ranch, but that doesn't seem to have worked. Perhaps this public notice will work.

Memo to Jon: Just let it go. Please just go your way and do your thing. It's a good thing you've got. Please let us go our way and do our thing, too--and without your participation. That's all we've ever asked for. Thanks in advance!

As for my disciples: hah! I don't have disciples. Hill Country Harmonica is open to all except JG. I'm a libertarian: what you do on your own time--including JG's jam camps--is totally cool with me. We all have private vices. :)

aaahhhh.
thanks for clearing that up.
without programs it's hard to tell who is where.
that's why i always buy one when i go to games.

i can see how jon would still want to come to HCH. it would be a great platform for a plug of his camps.

@eharp: You'll have fun at Jon's camp, one day or multi-day. I taught at ten of them. You'll have a good time.

i've been to a multi.
you were there.
it was st. louis.
i'm hurt you dont remember me!
lol

that was when it was a long weekend course and the price was far more reasonable and the site was much closer.
the cost of jon's one dayer is more than just the cost of the camp. it is 2 more work days. plus food and lodging.
YIKES!
i definitely wont be going!

I have been to both Hill Country Harmonica events and all I can say is that I was in harmonica heaven both times. The days are full and everyone is fantastic.

I will be adding an extra day this year at HCH...on the front side.

The Jam Camp is not a bad experience, having taught there myself for 3 gatherings.

The problem, as I see it, is Jon's type of personality has a real issue when running into others that don't share his exact views regarding his business, business actions or camp. (I had felt that the early Camps that I participated in were beginner/beginner intermediate level experiences at best and costly to attend, whereas Jon felt that they were very reasonable and affordable and were providing all level of teaching - from beginner to expert. Rather than just agree to disagree, Jon came at me in a nasty personal and public email attack because of this differing opinion).

Where others realize that it is a big ol' world out there and not everyone will always share all your sentiments - and that's ok -, Jon gets very angry and attacks those that don't agree with him.

His teaching concept is good, but I always believe that any institution or event is always a reflection of whoever sits at the top of the pyramid. Therefore, a bad vibe or personality trait will taint an event in a subtle way no matter how much it is sugar coated for public view. Granted, not everyone will feel these vibes, but I do and always try to avoid the source of them by crossing the street and walking the other way rather than go head to head, which always escalates without resolution with these types of folk.

As I get older and my personal time is more valuable (as it is running out), I've found that it is better to become involved with those that share mutual professional respect rather than with goofballs.
