Hi all: I have a gig coming up next friday march 9th from 8-10:30. It is in a small art gallery that sounds perfect for what I do. No art show, just music.

Alright, I hope you have fun! I wish I could be there, but I'm 2,000 miles away in California. I sure hope I get to see you one of these days somehow, Walter.

thanks guys! I am begining to feel the new path for my music in live venues. I booked every gig I ever did. I was quite good at it. This was before low phone rates, cell phones, the internet, and believe it or not, many people had yet to get an answering machine. I played all over this country and overseas. But when I stopped, so did the gigs. I had no label, management, or media hype, so once I stopped the hustle, my live gigs became pretty much extinct. Now, with 15 years of semi extinction, I see a new road emerging with others booking the gigs. The owner of the gallery contacted me and basically said he doubted I could do a gig in his small gallery but he was inspired by my music and he has a loyal following of people that would probably dig it also adn figured what the heck call the guy up. I love being around people that follow their passion whether it is what the in crowd hails or not. This is the perfect example of what I envison for my return to playing live venues. Like any new road it takes time but I am more than happy to let it unfold at its own pace. So, I will see you in your hometowns soon! Walter, you know I would be there if I could. Your live performance is a truly great experience for the audience. ---------- Wisdom does not always come with old age. Sometimes old age arrives alone.

thanks sarge! This gig is sort of the first step in my new journey with playing live shows. From the late 70's-late 90's I played a minimum of 100 gigs a year and most years was closer to 200 and they were all over the world. Most of them were in live music clubs where people paid a cover and came to hear music. It seemed in the late 90's those sort of gigs started dying off and only the top tier bands kept those kind of gigs as their normal ones. Since then I have sporatically played live gigs/festivals, The IBC in Memphis. It seemed the less I played the more opportunities arouse to play in totaly crap environments- mostly diner places where people are coming to eat not hear music. I backed out of those and kept to private parties. Even these were not very good. The people throwing the party dug what I do but most of the party goers came to the party and were unaware music would be happening. So I have backed out of most of those gigs too. For my music to work I need an audience that comes to listen, dance, interact, with the music. Otherwise I am better off staying home. My last few gigs I stopped pretty quick and just left. So from now I on I am sticking to the folks come to here me or I will pass. Backround music gigs I always hated. It seemed as the older bluesmen died, quit playing, the venues they held court in also died. Those were the ones I lived for.
Tonights gig is just music with a $5 cover. The owner is excited and so am I. I am bringing my video camera and am going to set it up behind me so people will get to see what I see. I rarely see videos shot from this angle. Watching the crowd is usually much more interesting to me than watching from the crowd angle most live videos use. Anyone from here that shows up say hi!.
