My friend Bryan Ward--engineer & co-producer of my two solo CDs--sent me a new video today that happens to have my harp on it. I was strictly in a sideman role here. Bryan is part of an ecumenical prison ministry called Kairos. Discussions of religion per se are off limits here, but there's no need to invoke religion; I'm dedicating this thread to those of us who blow harp in a sideman or studio role. Please post your own videos or videos that have harp in that role.
Adam, I watched the vid last night and shared it with friends in and out of the music biz. Loved the harp part & support Kairos Prison Ministry. The fact that you are playing makes it all that much better! ---------- Greg Jones 16:23 Custom Harmonicas greg@1623customharmonicas.com 1623customharmonicas.com
I wish the video camera was around for the average Joe back when I was backing the blues guys in mainly black blues clubs. Very few non professional movie makers had them. I have some bootleg recordings of backing Lightning hopkins at Tramps in NYC and an lp of Lousiana Red and myself playing with a Belgian band called the zoots that was recorded live at the banana peel in belgium, but they are on cassette and record and I don't have a way to convert them. I also have a vhs copy of a documentary that I was on called the roots of rock that included little richard, chuck berry, and others. Plus it is on european not american format. 30 years to late I was for the video thing..... but right on time to play with the greats! Walter

thanks for that tmf714. I am lacking a cassette and record player. Here is one with me as a sideman. It is from my sort of annual backyard festival. Lewis Cowdrey, a harp/guitarist/vocalist is featured. He and the Vaughns started the austin music scene as most know it. Walter
here is a link to Lewis's cd http://www.cduniverse.com/search/xx/music/pid/1063546/a/It's+Lewis.htm
this one is kind of a wierd one. Lewis was trying to use some kind of looper. I play some harp around the 8 minute mark that was inspired by that looping stuff only I had no looper just a clean vocal mic to the PA.

This is from an album of music for children, recorded as a benefit for a regional non-profit for early childhood education. It was released a couple of years ago and included a number of traditional tunes in a lively American roots style. This is the only cut with harmonica, but we're currently recording another album with all original tunes that were written with help from the kids.
(The photos are unrelated to the music, just random stuff to fill the frame.)
There's a common point between front- and sideman: not beeing absent-minded especially when stunning girls are dancing! BTW, were you improvising, I mean...with the harmonica?
Here's a track I recorded on for a band in Ireland recently – I'm in England. I've only ever met one of them. They sent me the track over the internet, I recorded my part in London and sent it back to them. They then mixed/mastered it etc. The wonders of modern technology – No video I'm afraid:
