That was great,I always loved that song ever since I heard Billy Branch do a cover of it. I always thought that it was written by a black artist listening to the the words and how funky it is...
I saw Tony Joe do a singles act in Memphis around 1970. He had his guitar, harp in a rack, and an SM57 on the floor pointing to his boot-heel. A real-deal "foot-drum." He was great!
I got to play a benefit concert with tony jo, neil young, and waylon jennings. It was an all day affair for the people of Jarrel, TX, whose town was destroyed by a tornado. Beleive it or not only about 20 people came out for it. Tony Jo organized it all and played with harp in rack, guitar, and a drummer. He was incredible. There were more band members backstage than in the audience and it turned into a very relaxed affair. I talked at lenght with Tony Jo. He talks like he plays. That is how a real musician is.
