Ok i have a choice between an Epiphone Valve junior or a VHT. Price range is within a 100$ of each other so not an issue. Will be miking up. The band i've just joined plays Blues/some blues Rock. In NZ we have a very limited range of Amps available so really for my purposes these are my only options. I have to make my mind up by saturday latest.I've watched a few test drives on U tube but find it hard to judge them given the tubes compression etc FWIW i use an astaic biscuit/CM Appreciate any opinions on this. Thanks all I sorta get the impression that the VHT has more of a'brown' tone whereas the EPI has a more overdriven one? Would that be a fair assumption?

I have owned a few epiphone. I still have one that I put together in a hardwire version from parts. I have never had a VHT but would go for it because of its construction (hardwired) Easier to mod, Thats just me,

I've played through both. Get the VHT- you won't regret it. Great ballsy tone, solid construction, and easy to mod. Still have the stock speaker in mine and it's broken in nicely.
Saw this browsing eBay a couple days ago and thought it was a good deal. Might be worth checking out http://www.ebay.com/itm/VHT-Special-6-Combo-Some-Harp-Amp-Mods-/190643924479?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c63436dff#ht_500wt_922
There's some clips on YouTube of both amps used for harp if you haven't listened to both being played. Most shops have the epi in stock but it's not too easy to play through a VHT anywhere. Most everyone on MBH has given it rave reviews though. ,

The VHT is a better and louder amp. Hands down. ---------- /Greg

There's no contest. I have owned both of these amps. I still own the VHT. It's a far superior amp in all respects.

Once you get the VHT, I can recommend Alnicomagnet's mods (see on Ebay. I had the mods done somewhile ago and it makes it a great little harp amp and now Ive just completed his mods so I can use a 6L6 valve instead of the 6V6. Output is now around the 10 watt mark and with the Weber Signature 10 speaker sounds even better than before. May I also add I use one of Gregs custom bulletised Shure 545 mics with it. A hard to beat combination.
