Always a great sound, Walter. I've noticed that your songs often have a hook - whether it's a repeated riff or sound (like a real focus on wah-ing or a 3/4 draw bend or whatever). Is that intentional or spontaneous? I mean, I know the songs are spontaneous, but do you play something and then think "That's it!" and latch on to a melodic idea or play without thinking that sort of thing at all? Either way, it's a cool feature - it gives each song an identity.

Hi Jodanchudan: Thanks for the compliment! I am not sure what a 3/4 bend is but I can tell you that I don't have a clue what is coming out. The beats I play require no thought on my part. That allows me to have a canvas so to speak to move with. When I repeat a verse it is not of my doing but it takes me deeper into the song. It seems to somehow make things more in focus or something. Using typed words is hard to describe all this. I am best in the flesh with communication. I have said this before but it is like walking into it. Imagine you just blink your eyes and you are in someones living room, somewhere, at some point in time, but have no idea where or who they are but somehow you intimidly know them. This is the addicting thing about spontobeat. Time ceases to exist. There is no past, present, or future. It is like I will live forever as long as the song continues. Maybe this is a window into the next step? All I know is I find it has a totally different feel to it than doing thought out music.
Whether other people can sense this via a reocrding I have no idea. My wife of 33 years says she feels my music completely different than the standard way music is played. She notes this most obvious when I do gigs and other bands/performers are on the bill. Maybe listening via the net one might feel it on a subconcious level but it is too forgein to them to take it in? Live, people tap into it and the performance builds around the interaction. Spontobeat is best experienced live. I would love to give seminars on how to tap into this thing. It is beyond music. the music is just a vehicle to get you there. Does this make sense? I am off to do another session. Walter

Thanks, Walter - yes, it makes sense. Sounds like you do use repetition but it's not thought out in advance - and I agree that repeating certain ideas takes you deeper into the songs. Like I said, it gives them an identity. Have fun in the studio (of which I'm very envious!)

jodanchudan: I am glad I made sense. I still am perplexed why others don't tap into this stuff. The studio is a 40 year dream come true. My advise is to keep dreaming of it happening. I am about 75% complete with it. My current gear has a few more updates needed and I will be be top shelf on all fronts. It is a so wonderful to be in complete control of my music from the band and recording angle. Your recordings sound pretty darn good. Most of the ones posted here I can't listen to the fidelity is so bad. Keep dreaming! Walter
