I just finished reading The Talent Code: Greatness Isn't Born. It's Grown. Here's How, which covers similar topics.
The author visits several "talent hot spots" for various skills (sports, music, etc.), and then examines what he claims are the 3 most important aspects for creating talent which are found in all of them: deep practice, ignition (sparking and maintaining interest and passion, or perhaps more accurately, obsession), and proper coaching. I found it interesting and useful, and would recommend it to anyone trying to master (or teach) a skill. The above link is to amazon, but I was able to download an electronic copy from my public library.

Thanks for this link Ninja,
This book sounds extremely appropo for me as i've picked up the harp rather late in life. We had a long and rather rancorous debate on the forum on this very topic a while back, with MAL and the late great Buddha exorting the nurture position. From the title it sounds like the author is firmly in the nurture camp. Should we understand that your LMFAO comment means you are firmly in the nurture camp? I'm unclear on that.
At the risk of re-opening up that can of worms (perhaps anybody interested in it should just find that thread) and for FWIW i'm in the "a little of both" camp, at least as it comes to people who achieve "world class" in their chosen fields.
But in any case thanks for the lead on the book, i'm definitely checking it out.
