Does anyone have a Fatdog? Has anyone played through one? Impressions?

Not me, but from what I've heard of them on youtube I liked the sound. Here's a review on Rick Davis' blog:

Here's a thread from about a year ago with a clip of Joe Filisko using one.

I played through a 2A a few years ago. My thoughts were: killer tone, but the volume was pretty consistent with a 5 watt amp.

I was sort of saddened by the latest chain of events in that company's story. I was considering purchasing one from the original owner when he was offering them as kits.

I'm curious about the twin 10 amp Rick Davis reviewed. Sounds like an interesting concept.

That's the one that I played through. The 2A = 2x10. Two amps in one cabinet is not a new concept. Personally, I didn't find that amp to be much louder than a Champ. I'd bet your Kendrick sounds as good or better.

I have a Fat Dog Model 1A, and I love it. It has a fat, nasty tone, and any mic sounds great through it. Mine happens to have a line out, so volume is no problem, but even without the line out, it's louder than a Champ; it's putting out about 10 watts. I too will be bummed out if the new owner has thrown in the towel; I was hoping to get a Model 2A someday.

I have a Fat Dog 1A, and like it just fine.
Nice litle amp. I have an Emminence Cannibis Rex in it now and like it a lttle better than the original Jensen speaker. Both sound pretty good, though.

Hi folks,
after the orginal thread was friendly closed by Adam I just have not much more to say.

I understand Adam`s decision totally. This here is his forum and I don`t wanna use it in a way in which it is not designed. I just leave my story as a warning for other customers. This is a lot!

BTW: I can`t sell an amp which I don`t own :-)

Take care friends and many thanks for your help.

I've owned, played, and tested the fat dog amp. Their concept is a separate little 6L6 amp for each speaker. Each of the amps is pretty anemic, with a nominal rating of 5 watts but an actual peak output of only about 3 watts. I know a player who swears his 4x10 Fat Dog is a 40 watt amp, but it is really about 12-15 watts.

I do not care for the tone. I got the amp when Rob owned the company and he kept telling me the Jensen speakers needed to be broken in, but I never heard any improvement.

I did have a 2A. I liked the tone up to about 80% wide open, but at 100% it was fuzz city. The amp was really nicely built, and very heavy for its low output. I found it really wasn't giggable, as it was too low in volume while maintaining reasonable tone. My band doesn't mic amps unless we have someone actively working sound. I moved on to many other amps (modeling, Egnater, SuperChamp XD, etc.), and have finally settled with a Kendrick 410 Bassman a Princeton Reverb, or VHT Special 6 (modded) depending on the size of the venue. BUT, I've been playing around with a Zoom G3 lately, and although it sounds like crap through headphones, when plugged into a decent PA it really sounds good.

One of the things I really liked about Fatdog was dealing with Robbie Reynolds, the original owner. It's a shame that the new owner is struggling.
