During her recording life, she was too hard to categorize, as she sang gospel like Aretha, blues like a pro, folk, jazz, etc, therefore couldn't find a spot in the record store rack as to style.....a British dj started playing "Over the Rainbow" after she died and it became a bit hit which started her rediscovery as an important artist. ---------- The Iceman
Some of my friends sang on her posthumous album 'Somewhere'.
They were about to be signed by Eva's label, Blix Street and it was decided that this would be a good vehicle for them. Sadly, it didn't happen, but they got the opportunity to do the song and make a mash up video with original footage. They're huge Eva fans and got a gold record out of it for album sales.
I'd never heard of her until about 3 years ago.We were at a BBQ and they had this music playing quietly as 'background'.Usually that kind of music just passes me by but something about it made me ask the host "who's that" 90% of my record collection is hard core blues/prison farm/field recordings Blah blah... But i have two CDs of Eva.... As a bonus my wife also loves her. No arguments whose turn it is to put a record on...Eva!
Wow. I'm speechless. This woman inhabits the soul of sorrow and leaves me in tears; then belts out the soul of pain and......well. I can't help wonder if her early death in some way reflects the impossibility of this world for such a one as she. She surely left a treasure for those of us who remain. I hope we can learn from it. ---------- Matthew
