I was looking out my window watching snow flurries fall while the cardnals ate sunflower seeds from the birdfeeder and realizing how beautiful the simple things are like this, talking to someone in the flesh, petting my dogs, holding my wifes hand. Technology seems to be pulling us as culture further and further away from these things. I used my cell phone for 18 mionutes in the past year and will never text. I have to tolerate it happening at work as I interact with my coworkers but in my personal life if someone does it I gently say they will have to stop that or I am leaving. For me, this stuff creates distance not closness and I am in persuit of closeness. Here are some songs about it. Walter

PS: As I was mixing these songs my recording software crashed and I lost like 5 songs that really hit the point. A heavenly message???? I went back and recorded these:

facebook friends
text messaging addiction
where is our culture heading
why I like old people
does anybody else feel like this

Cool playing as always, Walter. As for texting, it's not all bad...

''Technology seems to be pulling us as culture further and further away ''

surprising from the source of so much music in the virtual world away from physical contact with the audience.

time for some gigs walter, the micrchips are taking over your world

yogi: I agree. I have been putting wishes out to the universe for that to happen. All is on the right path. I need to be patient and let it unfold and enjoy the journey!

jodanchudan: I guess texting is a good thing for most people but for me it gives me a headache just thinking about it. My life is removed from this stuff and I have no interest in getting with it.

here are some songs from tonight

I prefer to recognize the bad things our recent technological things have changed, while trying to make the most of them. Recognizing the bad allows me to avoid the pitfalls, while making the most of them genuinely can benefit me at times.

Facebook- Obviously can do some terrible things if used the wrong way. Handwritten letters did the same things, Facebook just does it much faster. (People are not afraid to say things when removed from the situation which they would not face to face). This year, my college roomate, whom I've not seen in 15 yrs found me. He's a good guy and I'm really glad to see how well his life and family have turned out. Also glad to see he still plays a little music once in a while.

Texting - Disrupts things daily. I have it banned from the production floor of the plant I run because of that. However, there are things I need to communicate that don't need a whole discussion. If my wife wants to add strawberry jam to the shopping list, I'm glad to find out while I'm still at the store!

Cellphones with web browsers?- I hate when I'm trying to talk with someone, but they are looking at the web on their phone. However, this evening after family dinner, my bro-in-law were showing each other some youtube vids of killer guitarists we had found lately. It was a fun discussion and seeing the vids then kinda added to it....

Used improperly, any tool can become a problem. Used appropriately, it can be a helper or improver. You decide how you want to use the tool.

I find technology brings me closer. I can send my wife a message at any time, not wait till lunch break to call and hope she hasn't left the office for lunch. She can read the message when she can.I talk to my sons more often by text and Facebook than I would if I had to wait for them to call or catch them at home. I get to see photos of my 4 granddaughters weekly and watch them grow instead of just seeing them once a year when I go to visit them during vacation. I never thought I would get into texting either but it has turned out to be very useful.
