Winslow Yerxa stated, "L. J. Atkison had intended to step away at the end of his term as Vice President of SPAH. Likewise, Elizabeth Atkison had intended to step down as secretary and convention director. Replacing them would be a tall order, as they have been hardworking, highly capable, loyal, and dependable while tackling enormous and complex jobs that are vital to the functioning of SPAH. So I’m very pleased to welcome them as part of the team that I will be proposing to the SPAH electorate." That being said, let me introduce myself. I am L J Atkison and I welcome the opportunity to be Winslow Yerxa's running mate as vice president. The organizational leadership will continue to move forward with Winslow Yerxa at the helm. I am proud to call Winslow my friend and a friend to SPAH. He has demonstrated his leadership abilities in several areas on the SPAH staff team and supported SPAH in the last 20 years. He fulfills his duties and assignments with the utmost professionalism for the SPAH organization. He understands the technical part of the harmonica as well as performance. Yes, he has been and continues to be a player on all levels of the SPAH organization. While serving as SPAH's vice president I have watched the SPAH organization grow tremendously in the past six years under Mr. Tom Stryker's expert leadership. Tom has created a strong, stable platform for the future of SPAH, and Winslow has the abilities and vision to build that future. My primary duty as SPAH vice president has been to assist and manage any duties assigned by the president. A few of my other responsibilities have currently been to organize the convention vendors, signage, logistics, and floor plan spaces usage for our excellent vendors. I have also been on the SPAH hotel convention selection team along with Winslow Yerxa. I also enjoy drawing the cartoons for the "Harmonica Happenings" SPAH magazine. I have a strong commitment to the SPAH organization and I will continue to bring my experience and knowledge in support of Winslow's proven leadership. Outside of SPAH I'm a professional architect, soil scientist and I have served on the county Planning and Zoning Board. I currently serve on the Board of Zoning Adjustment and school advisory boards. I also served our country as a Navy "SeaBee" (construction battalion). I also teach introduction to chromatic and diatonic harmonica and am president of the local Kansas City Harmonica Club. My harmonica interest started with my dad and I have enjoyed encouraging all of my family to play. Several of my grandkids play the diatonic, chromatic, bass and the chord harmonicas. This is your SPAH organization and I encourage you as a member to voice your opinions and ideas to the SPAH board, who are there to work with you. It is important & appreciated that you CAST YOUR VOTE for Winslow Yerxa for SPAH president. I most certainly will.
