Are the Pignose Hog-20 batteries 12 Volt batteries with a nice label? It does say "12VDC" on the charger imput on the pignose, so I take that to mean they're 2 12 Volt batteries. I bought a cheap pignose without a charger and would love to spend $6 on a charger rather than $50 for the Pignose charger.
Thanks for all the help! Constantine

@billy how long does your old car battery last? And do you use one or 2 of them in the pignose?

So--how do you connect the charger to the amp? On my Hog 30 I would have to open the back up to get at the batteries--or maybe make a jumper that just connects into the power jack?? When running with a charger, can you just go on playing while charging?
My power supply for the Hog blew up a while back, and I'd like to get it fixed--but the Pignose supply is over 50 bucks! I have a car battery charger--just never thought to use it this way. . . ----------

it has to be a trickle charger like if you hook it up to a 12 volt lamp it will flash on and off. that thing you got is unregulated. i guess you can use it i wouldnt plug it in for more than a few hours. yeah you have to open the back take the batteries out and clip them in a series. you can by pass the plug and run two extention wires out for easy access, or connect them to two bolts on the outside marked + and - a plastic box of some kind that snaps closed will protect it from water a red. you clip the red one first then the black. when your done charging unclip the black first then the red. the two 6 volts inside the amp last 6 hours. i can carry the amp in a backpack without the batteries its like 6 lbs. when i tap into my bike battery i dont play for more than a couple hours. when i ride the bike 20 mins its charged back up again.

I have really easy access to the back so I'll go that route.
Is there another charger I don't have to worry about overcharging them so much with?
And can I charge them one at a time since I can't run them together as I have no wiring?

no they have to be connected together. just cut carefully with a razor blade a peice of sheilding off the wires going to the 12 v dc in jack. or just cut those wires going to the dc charger jack and strip the ends just make sure you cover them with tape when not charging. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-trickle-charger-motorcycle-Battery-Charger-12v-6-amp-ATV-maintainer-/190629452034?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item2c62669902#ht_500wt_665

I appreciate the feedback, Billy--one more question: I still have the old burnt out power supply/charger that came with the amp--what if I was to just cut the old cord that went to the amp and connecte it to the leads to a trickle charger? That would connect the batteries in series--but would also be feeding the innards of the amp with the charging power--would that work? Just asking to maybe avoid blowing the amp to hell.
Putting the batteries in and out to charge is way too much hassle for me to deal with regularly--I used to use this amp a lot in the summer--sometimes charging it twice a day. . . ----------

yeah if you got the old wall wart charger cut the plug and hook it to the charger. i didnt know you had it lol. thing is about the hog is you cant leve the charger in and play the amp through ac current. its dc or nothing. but yeah juat make sure the positive and negative is right. twist the wires togetherheat it with a soldering iron and drip some solder on the wires. the rest is black tape. or use auto crimp connectors.
