this harp had a bad reed. i never properly broke it in. 1 tbs peroxide, 1 tbs baking soda, 2 tabs water soak on a plate. man the junk and gunk this took out!
then i got more crud off with steel wool being careful of OMG THE DELICATE REEDS! then i cleaned it with dish soap on a toothbrush and a nice alchohol soak. finally i could see the reeds no problem they all lined up no bristles of steel wool hairs. put it back together same wonky reed.
then i noticed nice gaps on the low end from breaking in just that side. the wonky reed i couldnt slip paper under so using a toothpick to get a folded peice of paper under there i gapped all the reeds using paper as a bender and my thumb as a curve OMG DID I HURT THE DELICATE REEDS?
NO it plays its still old but better than it was.
no special tools, paper a toothpick, an exatco blade. oh one last tip. i always put the exacto blade in backwards to protect the edge and so it doesnt roll off and land in me some where. this blade in backwards makes a great flat head screwdriver for removing the top plates. this is the first time ive gapped im happy but not proud i know i will mess up one day.
