Hi everyone! I got a fantastic backing track from a site called jazzbacks.com. It cost my £3 or so but it's worth it, imho! It's in Am and I've been playing to it a couple of weeks now. It's my first tumble with third position but man that is a nice way of playing. The song is so forgiving, you can play almost anything without sounding off (almost).

I got this idea for a video. I never took drama in school so I'm trying to compensate that now.

Well here it is:

Oh, forgot. The backing track is so damn good I have a hunch it may be ripped from somewhere else. Does any of you guys have any idea about that?

Thanks guys! I appreciate it.

@ groyster1 - I started with picking it out by ear, just improvising over the Fitzgerald/Armstrong version and it just sounded fabulous midharp on an A harmonica (that version is in Bm... Well Em when satchmo sings). I then found a song study with scale degrees to find that elusive 3''' in the melody line in third. .

So Pistolcat, are you playing this on a G harp in 3rd position?

Yes. I play on a hering master blues in G. Start on draw 6, d5, d6 and then on... Transfers easily to the top octave too even if I missed my glissandos somewhat....

Thank you tooka. I love that track. No hassle in the purchase either. I'll probably get some more tracks there but not all were that good. But you can preview before purchase so it's all good. I think that there was a affiliated site called bluesbacks but I'm not entirely sure.

Tack Arbite! Great fun to play too. It's really fun learning new stuff, especially new positions.

Nice effort mate. I hope it's OK to make comment and I know you have not asked, so tell me to F.O. if you need to.
I feel you could hang a little longer on some of your notes, especially at the end of a run. Take a listen to Mark Fords version for something a little different.
Cheers, Mike B.

F*** o** leathersack! Just kidding :) I always appreciate feed back. I couldn't find mark fords version on YT or iTunes but I have heard Mark Hummels version on one of his blowout cd:s. It was heavily amped and sounded nice but maybe a bit too bluesy... I tried to keep my playing really soft and as easy-jazzy as I could :P
I have no musical education whatsoever beyond this forum but I feel like jazz breaks down in solos to quicker notes and a lot more, sometimes wholly chromatic. Blues, on the other hand, can break to either fast triplets or into long wailing, vibratoed notes. Typically that is.

I'm not talking about my playing above, but in general. I also just thought about this after I read your post so it's mostly bs (or maybe D-K syndrome).

Well your comment made me thinking about this kind of stuff which is why I love getting comments. Thank you! I will try with more sustained notes next time, and harder attack too. (I actually tried with some sustained five hole split draws as a kind of break down in the end chorus before the outro which sounded nice but didn't have the feel I wanted for that part with regards to the filmic aspect :))
Sort the BS from the rest in that if you dare!
