I was talking to a muso friend with hearing problems in both ears the other night. His hearing was damaged by amplified guitar playing. He was telling me about a revolutionary hearing aid he's just bought. Just the job for musicians.
I really didn't know that technology had advanced this far, it sounds fantastic.
Apparently, it's the batteries that governs the size in today's aids but his are so small they are totally invisible and you really couldn't tell he had a problem and was wearing them.
His new aids have been built using Nano Technology (technology at a molecular level) and they have tiny built-in solid-state power generators which convert the heat from the human ear into electricity which powers them. Therefore no batteries are required.
He has a credit card sized remote control which has a touch screen which he uses to control the functions which are amazing.
He has downloaded all of his MP3 files to his remote control unit and can listen to hi-fidelty music at will. The remote also has a microphone and functions as a mobile phone. It is bluetooth and wifi enabled and can be used with Skype, plus he can listen to any radio station which is online or broadcast on normal FM.
He uses them on stage to monitor his playing plus he can switch into Noise Cancelling mode when noise is a problem and even play pink noise which cancels out most tinnitus problems. It also has a built-in tuning mode for tuning his guitars.
He can use the remote to change his TV channels and by adjusting the tremendous sensitivity and says he can hear a conversation from a hundred yards away as though the people were standing next to him.
I have a problem with Tinnitus and thought this could be just what I could do with. I asked him, "how much did the system cost"? he said, "it's a quarter past eleven".
Never mind it's only a matter of time before these technological advances are available:)
