I own a few of the new Crossovers however I've not had a chance to hold one of the blister pack MB Deluxe. Is there a difference in the covers between the two?

This may not be helpful because I have never really sat down to study this. But I have both harps and the covers appear the same except for one saying Crossover and the other MBD. When I ordered it I specifically asked for one that had a soft case and the covers like Crossover. I asked that because I figured that was a sign of it being the newer fully sealed comb MBD rather than left over stock of the old ones. It came in a blister pack.

Now I have a question. I have read this "blister pack" thing before. What the hell does that mean? I thought all Hohners came in blister packs and what's the difference anyway?

The blister pack it the plastic "blister" or bubble attached to the cardboard backing so it can hang by pegs and be merchandised in different displays.

The Hohners used to simply come only in the box inside the blister pack.

LOL, I know what a blister pack is. I was asking because in another post here The blister pack was mentioned as if the harps in blister packs were different than other harps.

Some time ago I happened to be working on an MB 1896, a Deluxe and a Crossover at the same time. I decided that as I had the covers off on all three that I would do a little ping test to see if there were any differences.

I did a ping test by lightly holding a cover plate by a corner while striking it first with a finger nail and then a small screw driver. After many attempts at getting a ringing tone or at least an identifiable tone, I hummed that tone and then found it on the harmonica.

Two findings: The bottom covers are pretty indistinguishable from their top counterparts. The Deluxe and Crossover covers had a tone around Bb, while the 1896 was somewhat lower, around G.

Perhaps Crossover and Deluxe are made of a stiffer alloy that rings at a higher freqency.

I seem to remember someone (harpwrench?) saying that the nailing vs. screwing the covers affects the sound, but I haven't pursued that one.
