Hi MBHers
I wasnt sure how to get in touch with hvyi personally so I figured I would take the time to thanks him on forum!
I was musing over a larger amp to purchase for a while and whilst umming and aah-ing over the boutique amps out there which would take considerable time and expense to ship from the USA to Oz, I turned to the MBH forum for suggestions and was really intrigued about hvyi's suggestion on the fender Super reverb (reissue)
So I managed to find an Actual 68' SR (Silverface with Blackface Circuitry) on ebay from a local seller who was giving it away quite cheaply and on a whim purchased it!
To my surprise the amp still had 3 of its its original speakers in fine working order with one Fender Special design speaker in the mix. From there it spent about a month in the workshop having a full service done on it - New reverb tank, re-soldered points, new orange drop caps and on hvyi's advice, I tried out his recommended tube configuration.
All up, this venture left me out of pocket at around $1800 (AUS)
Over the last couple of months ive been testing it out in the garage with my Ultimate 545, Samson Wireless system and MXR Carbon copy delay to get acquainted.
Tonight my new set up finally had its maiden voyage at a gig with my band and it did not disappoint!
The sound jumps out at you with so much depth, clarity and headroom yet if I want to drive it all I have to do it tighten the seal on my cup and BAM! I'm into fat, over-driven territory! And yes, I now get what you mean hvyi when you say to be careful with the bass setting, it can really hit you if youre not careful.
I highly recommend this amp and mic combination for any player out there looking for a 40-50 watt 4x10 rig but is shy from ordering o/s
Cheers!

I'm delighted to hear that my suggestion was helpful to you. As I said in my previous posts, I've played my SRRI at jams side by side with harp specific amps(SJs and HGs) and I wouldn't trade my SRRI for any of them. But, like you, I use a 545 Ultimate which, IMHO, has a symbiotic relationship with the Fender Super Reverb.
Anyway, I'm confident you'll find that your new amp will handle a wide variety of live performance situations very effectively. Glad this has worked out for you.
