Here's another song from our album. Oulujoki-blues (River of Oulu -blues). Harp-wise this is probably the most interesting song. It includes both acoustic and amplified harp solos and chordal work. I also use 6OB and Powerbender tuning.
Contrary to the previous songs I've sent here the solos aren't improvised. They are designed and practised beforehand instead.
First solo is acoustic and featuers the 6OB. Second solo is amplified and has also little glissandos. Third solo is also acoustic and utilizes the PB tuning.
The song tells story of a man walking on the banks of Oulu river, remembering the "good old times" there. The acoustic harp as well as the chordal work are supposed to carry on the theme while the amplified solo is more about telling a story.
Anyway, here you go:
Any constructive comments on the playing technique, and the construction of the solos etc are very welcome!
Love it! I think the solos are really good on a recorded piece. Live I would have liked another 12 bars attached to either for some ass-kicking. Maybe with some long sustained notes. The chording was well fitted indeed. Sometimes I wished the harp to be more prominent in the mix but I'm obsessed with harmonica, so don't listen to me :)
Nice OB too. The PB bit were nice and you really took advantage of the high bends. Do you have a version with blow bending on a richter for that too? I love blow bends... Great all the way! ---------- Pistolkatt - Pistolkatts youtube
Live I have played it always with one richter harp, few different ways. Perhaps another 12 bars would actually be a good way to make it more interesting.. And now that I think of it, why not switch the harp to PB tuned too on the second solo?
I actually recorded the second solo in the upper octave both with richter and PB tuned harps. I liked the PB more so that was selected to the album. Both harps are SP20's, customized and tuned by myself. PB is half-valved with ultrasuede.
