I've heard a rumor that the 1896 Marine Band in the blister pack will come assembled with screws like the Deluxe and Crossover. Is this rumor true? On one hand that would be cool but on the other hand the bottom cover would be very difficult to reform because the screws will move. The Thunderbird already has formed covers in all keys. It would be very righteous if they did that on the lower key Crossovers and Deluxe. Jon Harl 5731 Meridian Ave San Jose, CA 95118 jonharl@mac.com

I recently purchased by first Marine Band harmonica, and the covers are indeed affixed with four screws.

New production Marine Bands now have sealed combs. They still have nails.
FMW: Those are nails. Since the very beginning, Marine Band coverplates have been fastened down using nails with heads made to look like screws. And that tradition continues....

The new blister packs have sort of a orange comb that looks nothing like the unsealed version. I have yet to see one with screws, and I would be shocked if that was really the case.
I bet someone saw the nails in the covers that look sorta like screws and was mistaken. ---------- Mike VHT Special 6 Mods Quicksilver Custom Harmonicas - When it needs to come from the soul...

I purchased a MB during the summer and the comb (at least the front of the tines) were shiney as all get out as if they were lacquered. it looked nothing like the combs on any other MB I've had. Very bright color. And nails. But as always the nails have that little notch in them making them look like tiny screws. Nothing like the actual screws (big ones) on Crossovers and Deluxes. ---------- Tommy

Well, lemme post, for once, before imbibing. I'm looking at it right now. The comb is orangish and appears to be lacquered. The "nails" are slotted, very small slots, and they're slotted top and bottom, no nut on the bottom. The covers have a slight indentation top and bottom, left and right, at each nail head, which for some reason made me think "screw" also. I'm not gonna pry a cover off to make sure, BUT...the slots ARE very small. I don't think I have a screwdriver small enough to try on them.

The new MBD's in the blister pack have fully lacqured combs like the new MB's. The combs look the exact same, but you can tell the new ones by the cover plates (these combs were for a customer and have black-winewood dymonwood combs, so ignore the comb shot of the top harp).

If you can't afford a MBD, then buy MB's. Now that the combs are sealed, they are a better value now than before. The quality is better too.
