this is some vintage stuff from the late 80's via austin Texas. First is a network segment on spontobeat. Look for a young, healthy, thin, Gary Primach. Gary and I shared Jimmy carl black on drums and Gary use to work across the street at UT and would hang out when I played the streets. Not hardly any regular club musicians played the streets back then in austin. I was about the only one.

Next is pt 1 & 2 of a documentary/performace art video my longtime bassist jamie greenan and I did about spontobeat. Look for the old bus on the second song. It was the bus used with Marylin Monroe in the movie bus stop. It was in a junkyard in downtown austing that was full of old caddys and many austin musicians lived on the property. Speedy Sparks, austin legendary bassist, lived there and had a full jukebox in his little room. We would listen to old 45's for hours.

I had just finished being a part of dwight yokums video - guitars cadillacs(that is my caddy featured in his and this video) and got inspired to do one on our own. It was shot for a total of less than $200. This included the camera, studio time for the music. The camera was a playschool thing that recorded onto cassette tapes. We did the soundtrack and then filmed the video with no focus on making the 2 match. I did the narration on a funky cassette player and somehow got the video, narration, and studio music tracks all on a vhs tape. I have no idea how I did this. There were no computers and whatnots back then. I wonder how I did get all three things together cause I had nothing back then recording gear wise.

This was finished right at the time David Lettermans people contacted me to be on his show. It was pretty much set to go but they asked for some video on me. Most people suggested sending the news segment. I said no way and sent the film Jamie and I made. Letterman saw it and I was sent a letter saying unfortunately they had a change of direction and my appearance had to be canceled. That was fine with me. This documentary video captured the spirit Jamie and I had to conquer the music world with a new way of doing music. It is pure honest spontaneous passion flowing. This documentary is one of my proudest things to date. We succeed for many years with no label, no management, to tour the world. Youth is a great thing and I still carry this spirit in me today. Mark Rubenstien is on bass and keys, Ken Cook on drums(left me to play many years out in CA with James Harman), Jamie on bass and keys, and me on guitar, vocals, harp
