Hey Guys and Gals, i was thinking of taking on a little project in the new year and building a 3 string Cigar Box Guitar. Has anyone in the UK done this and if so do you have any usefull tips, plans, part suppliers, etc that would help me do it? Cheers Geordie.

Well--I'm not from the UK--but I have built a couple of guitars--including the Jack Daniels Whiskey Box Steel Guitar--
Here's just a link to an event that I was lusting for this last summer--but of course it's a world away for me--might be for you too--but at least a bit closer--I don't know--might be in your back yard!
It seems like CBG's are HUGE in the UK. . .

Cheers OW, i took a look at this last night but my PC was having a wobbler so i will go back to it later and check it out properly once i get the damn thing working right, sadly Birmingham where this is based is quite a few hundred miles away from me so i don't know if i would make that trip ( to many other things on my calender each year) i have found a UK co that does Cigar Box kits for a reasonable price and my birthday is coming up so i might ask my lovely wife to indulge me!( it'll probably cost me my birthday blow job but you have to make sacrafices for the Blues man!)

Check this out for inspiration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAAtm8ZEhc0 Heck, for a hundred bucks, you might as well buy a Bogdon Bass to accompany your cigar box guitar.

Hey Geordie! Here are a couple that I have made. They were a boatload of fun to do. I Tried to use as many salvageable/recycled parts as I could. There are plenty of good how to sites on the web that show how to build them. Both of mine are acoustic and If I had it to do over I would make them with a piezo. I was able to scrounge up most of the parts from my garage. The guitar necks I got from old starter guitars that my coworkers had bought for their kids and were now broken or unused. Good luck and have fun.

Wow, Geordie--I'm going to do some research on this English concept of the "Birthday BJ!" If I can make that stick, my wife owes me at least 38 BJ's--(I think I already collected on a few of them) but I might be willing to settle for a really good guitar and a HarpGear amp--is there a tradition of Christmas, New years, presidents day, or 4th of July BJ's?
Of course anniversaries (if they are remembered) have always been good for the BJ business at my house. . . ----------

Oh Yes the Birthday Blow Job, a tradition i introduced right at the start of our relationship when blow jobs were just for the fun of it and not as they always become in a marrage, a form of currency that have to be earned and accumulated through driving favours and DIY!. Tradition, thats the key word here, once it's established you have leverage to keep it going, as in "Oh i see, we have to place flowers on your mums grave every year on the same day even when the weathers crap, but you won't give that a little kiss!"
