With apologies in advance:

The uncontainable being know to humans as Rushad Eggleston holds forth on Robert Johnston's Ramblin' On My Mind:

and playing cello with a saw (a real one):

and a catchy itle rhythm piece called Blounty Tounty:

No apology necessary. I'm open minded and I think this is kind cool. If you have the blues you want an expressive instrument to help you communicate it. Few would argue that the cello is one of the most expressive instruments there is. A little more expensive and a little less portable than a harmonica! This sounds like blues to me. Wish he had a better voice......

Apology?? I love it! I'd like to see him in a combo, trading licks with the guitar & harp.

I can't tell whether he's tongue blocking or not.

I am going to rip the audio from that first video and use it as a jam track. Seriously, I think it would be quite the thing to see him trade lick with a harp player.

Another one-man-band! Rhythmic cello: It works!

He apparently plays bluegrass cello.

Hey Adam, would you consider inviting him to Hill Country Harmonica?

I'm a string player and got the dvd of him teaching this kinda technique together with Darol Anger and Casey Dreissen. They look like a bunch of freaks but they really had pushed the boundaries. Check out this vid of Casey Dreissen doing similar thing.

I never thought I'd ever see Rushad (or Casey) pop up on this forum! My girlfriend (who plays violin & cello) knows him fairly well. He used to play (and receintly said he might be hooking back up) with the bluegrass/old-time band "Crooked Still". If you want to hear/see something crazy, you should check out his rock band "Tornado Rider"!

You should also check out Casey using a looping pedel on a tune like Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean"!

Here's a version I just found:

A cellist sat in with us when we played a "Blues Night" show at a famous jazz club. I thought it was rippin' good.

That Rushad is amazing. Above is Kronos quartet doing a cover of Dark Was the Night a little while back...
