this is some vintage stuff from the late 80's via austin Texas. First is a network segment on spontobeat. Look for a young, healthy, thin, Gary Primach. Gary and I shared Jimmy carl black on drums and Gary use to work across the street at UT and would hang out when I played the streets. Not hardly any regular club musicians played the streets back then in austin. I was about the only one.
Next is pt 1 of a documentary/performace art video my longtime bassist jamie greenan and I did about spontobeat. You have to go through some blank time to get to it. I am having trouble getting the original vhs to dvd and then to youtube.
I had just finished being a part of dwight yokums video - guitars cadillacs(that is my caddy featured in his and this video) and got inspired to do one on our own. It was shot for a total of less than $200. This included the camera, studio time for the music. The camera was a playschool thing that recorded onto cassette tapes. We did the soundtrack and then filmed the video with no focus on making the 2 match. This was finished right at the time David Lettermans people contacted me to be on his show. It was pretty much set to go but they asked for some video on me. Most people suggested sending the news segment. I said no way and sent the film Jamie and I made. Letterman saw it and I was sent a letter saying unfortunately they had a change of direction and my appearance had to be canceled. That was fine with me. This documentary video captured the spirit Jamie and I had to conquer the music world with a new way of doing music. It is pure honest spontaneous passion flowing. This documentary is one of my proudest things to date. We succeed for many years with no label, no management, to tour the world. Youth is a great thing and I still carry this spirit in me today. I am going to post the rest of the documentary soon=as soon as I figure outh how to:-) Mark Rubenstien is on bass and keys, Ken Cook on drums(left me to play many years out in CA with James Harman), Jamie on bass and keys, and me on guitar, vocals, harp

here is a link to the video with Dwight Yokum. That is my caddy in it. I drove it with a cowboy hat on. Dwight was not enjoying the austin august heat. They were some wild days in austin. Things like this happened all the time. Walter click to see video

Those forgein cars have killed us. I gave up on collectable american cars after the caddys. I had 60's muscle cars - a 68 roadrunner and 64 nova. I sold them in my teens and drove the caddy's till I sold that caddy in the video to pay for college. I went from that to a geo metro (brand new). I also had a 59 caddy limo with the bullet fins while in austin. It had TX and USA flags mounted on poles on the front fenders. We used if for a dressing room at gigs. I would pull it up on the sidewalks in front of the clubs. Nobody bothered us. With those gangster whitewalls and flags they thought we had LBJ in there. They were fun days. I pulled a trailer on the 63 park ave all over the country for 16 years. Judy and got married in the Vegas courthouse while the radiator was being repaired. I sold it in 92 I think. Parts were getting very hard to find at the car parts stores. The car was reaching the collectable stage and all the stuff had to come from collector shops for big bucks. I have only owned 1 vehicle at a time, so with wanting to go to college, 20 years of doing music full time, I was ready to get out of the cool car thing. I now drive a 2005 honda oddessy van. I still wish I had my bus but it was not feasible to keep it. Maintainance on those things is like 4k a year and disel was around $5 a gallon when we sold it and at 7mpg and a 150 gallon tank.......... But you couldn't beat having a 40 foot house on wheels! We lived in it for over a year. Walter
