I get sporadic inspirations to play amplified rack harp. Usually it peters out before I can spend much time trying to get a good sound with it. Today a light went on in my head to try something new and I ran with it. I think it works pretty good. It is using my beer can cooler in my rack with an akg d58 talk back mic and a new chain of stuff to the final sound. The amplified harp mic picks up the vocals and the vocal mic picks up the muted harp. Both things make getting a good mix difficult. If I did this for a solid month I bet I would have a pretty darn cool sound coming off a harp rack. Here are some samples. I figure in a day or 2 I will be back to acoustic harp so I am going to keep at this till the fire goes out. Walter

JB: Thanks for that link! Yes I have seen them before but not in the flesh. I looked up the specs on the mic and I would still have the problem of the vocals bleeding into the mic. That might not be too bad a thing though. This just gave me another idea to try. I added distortion after the fact with these recordings. The mic sound was pretty much clean. The vocal bleed to the harp mic got warped somewhat by the beer can cooler acoustics. I may try just clipping the mic onto the harp and see what happens. The mic I am using on these recordings in no bigger than my thumbnail. Walter
