"...There are a bunch of notes on the harp. Why not learn to play them all?..."
Nah. I have no need for the 10 blow half-step bend. ;)

Actually the 10 blow half bend is a cool note. I'm not saying if you can't do it on a Eb harp you suck and should just sell your harps on Ebay and stop with these silly little posts! I don't do it on any harp higher than C, but on a A or Bb harp it isn't that hard and it sounds cool when you seperate the full bend to the half bend then unbent. Again if learnin' aint your thang! Thats cool baby!

I offer my deepest apologies for showing a little levity....I keep forgetting that bitterness and sarcasm are more acceptable on this forum.

I don't think Overblows will be obsolete any time soon, if ever. There is a style that surrounds the technique. It has a unique "sound". So does chromatic harmonicas, valves, alt tunings, etc, etc.
If you need a note that isn't on a richter tuned harp then sooner or later you will look into one of these alternatives. How you achieve the goal of playing that note will be based on technique, determination, and most likely money.
You can buy new harps with alt tunings or valves, go chromatic, or learn to overblow.
I learned to overblow on a stock golden melody. I watched all the Youtube videos I could, but had zero luck. It was Buddha and MichaelAndrewLo that gave me the advice I needed during one of the few MBH skype calls.

@ Gene I'm not bitter. Sarcastic yes! Ihas just having fun and making a point at the same time. No more no less! I guess my point being don't worry about what you can't do or don't a need for. Just keep trying to peck away at it and someday you may have a different outlook on some of this stuff. I'm not singling you out. I have been VERY guilty of the same thing thats why I think I have pretty good insight to this stuff. I use to play alot and went through a bunch a different phases. What I'm trying to say is we should all keep an open mind and spent more time listening/enjoying other people's idea than always trying to prove people wrong or the way I do it is better. I can play the harmonica very well, but there are lots of people that can play better than I can and even people that I wouldn't consider better than me, but do some really cool things that I don't. Personally I'm glad it's that way. It makes fun to be able to learn from so many people. The learning part keeps it fresh for me.

OK. I was a bit touchy yesterday....Not a good day all 'round.
I was kidding about that 10 blow half-step bend, but those overblows...Maybe in my next life....

If Howard Wolowitz (Big Bang Theory) can invent a kissing machine, I bet he could come up with the ultimate electronic harmonica... Embedding disabled, so here is the link:

I don't guess I could mention other applications for similar machines that y'all haven't already thought of...
