I am a firm believer in going for things when the urge hits. On another thread today a guy asked about sitting in kim wilson. This thread is somewhat connected.
a few months ago the Sean Carney Band came by my studio. They had just finished a european tour and were back in columbus for a big cancer benefit sean puts on every year. Omar Colman was with him on the tour as was his bassist he uses in europe. I had never recorded a real band before in my studio. Sean had called me up and wanted to bring his band by to hang out. I offered my studio to them and they said for sure. My studio was built for my music. I have no control room, or isolation rooms. It is all in a 25'x25' space. So here I was in my studio with no experience, recording some world class musicians for a completely live, no overdubb, session. The band consisted of a full drum kit, guitar, vocals, harp, bass. I figured if they pulled this off in the early days of recording history so could I. Here is a rough mix clip of that session. Sean is coming by around christmas to go through the songs with me. WHen you got the urge go for it. Screw what the masses say I say! They live in middle ground saftey zones. I would rather fall flat on my face anyday! Walter

thanks! It was very challenging to capture each instrument/voice with everyone being so close to each other. I gave them an example of what volume level would work best and they went with it. Otherwise everything would be spilling over to all the mics and it would be near impossible to mix beyond that. I will be sitting down with Sean to mix it all. I want it to sound like he likes.
