I recently bought "Ludella" at a premium price (it turned out to be a Russian re-issue made under license) because it has been mentioned on this forum many times. While I like it a lot, I'm finding that I like the later "Blues, Blues, Blues" project better. To my ears, Jimmy's voice is incredible on BBB, and KW's playing (I know he doesn't play on all the tunes) is perfect--- the best comping I've ever heard. On Ludella, Kim's tone is a little harsher, and dare I say, he plays too much? BTW, I'm still glad I purchased "Ludella" though. Any comments/rebuttals?

Blue Blues Blues is one of my favourite albums. It was responsible for reigniting my passion for Chicago style blues. Just about every track is awesome. I especially like 'blow wind blow'.

Lester, I have several favourite tracks on Blues*3 and "Blow Wind Blow" is definitely one. It features the late, great, Jeff Healey on one of his best recordings, IMO. I also love "Everyday I've Got the Blues" and "Worried Life Blues". The only one I'm not in love with is "Gonna Shoot You Right Down". Stephen Stills' playing on that record is also fabulous.

I bet that there are a bunch of unreleased cuts from those sessions. I'd like to hear them.

I'm listening to "Blues, Blues, Blues" as I type. Kim Wilson moves me... I mean, moves me... whenever I hear him play. Not all harp players do.

So, thank you Kim, from the heart. You play from the heart. Keep playing. Glad I got a chance to see you at the Yale Hotel before it shut down for renovations.

On to the topic at hand-- I've listened to both albums many times. Ludella is Kim Wilson at his all time best in his role as an accompanist, in my humble but unshakeable opinion.

My wife prefers "Blues, Blues, Blues". She's the pop, rock, country and blues fan; I'm the hard core blues fan in our household. It's all good, different strokes for different folks.

Can't resist adding to my earlier message. Listen to track 3, "Can't Sleep for Worrying" on Ludella-- my all time favorite Kim Wilson harmonica cut, be he soloing or accompanying. It's full of passion, and note perfect. Perfect as it was, it was recorded live; not in the studio.

Cheers,

Yeah, 'Every day I have the Blues is Awesome', definitely my favourite version of that song. Don't mind 'Gonna shoot you right down'; the harp is a bit different to how it is usually done for that song.
The first position playing and general swing of 'Bright lights big city' is pretty cool too, and I like the approach of the harp in Sweet Home Chicago; so many ways to play that!
