Adam posted this summer that he acquired a small Masco combo. The amp was noisy and volume lacking so he took it apart and discovered that someone had wired in a speaker output. After removing the output he reported the amp came to life and was everything he'd hoped it would be. I read this account with interest because I had the big brother version of his amp, bought it about 5 years ago, mine uses a 12" speaker. When I got it, it barely worked. So I shipped it off to the Masco expert, chassis only. When I got it back, I discovered that the speaker itself was bad. I installed a vintage Jensen P12Q. Unfortunately, the speaker leads had come off in shipping. I rigged up a cord from the speaker out output and fell in love with the tone on this baby. I shipped it back and asked the tech to also trace down a hum. Got it back, attached the new leads and there was barely a sound, un-usable. The hum was there too. So I stuck it away 3 years ago and wrote it off. Took it out today, decided to remove the speaker output wire. Bingo! I put it all back together carefully and the hum nearly went away. What a great amp! Loud too! The longer I played, the less I noticed the hum, it nearly went away completely. Thanks Adam! It's never been out of the house, I guess it's off to the next jam.
