I believe the original stock set-up was 2x10 for the combo and the only audio/video I've ever run across is for that set-up. Anyone out there played thru or heard the 10+12 combo?

I've heard whatever David Barrett has or had with the expansion cabinet. It sounded huge. I heard it next to the big Harp King, a Meteor and a Sonny Junior 410.

The players were Dennis Gruenling, Gary Smith and David Barrett. Its a fantastic sounding and pricey amp. Each of them sounded great through any of those amps.

The Wezo sounded like a big PA head. Fantastic tone and a ton of volume. If you've got tone and technique, its a really bad ass amplifier.

I had a line on one of those heads, but didnt get there in time.

You might get a better response, if you asked this on David's forum. I can tell you this, he knows tone. If he endorses an amp, it'll sound good.

Thanks Joe. I am fairly certain David originally had the 2x10 combo and the addition cabinet used to make the stack was 2x12, at least that's what I read David's set-up was initially. I'll probably shoot him a note to ask if he's heard both.

Wish I'd been in the room for that demo. I won't ask what sounded best, but I will ask: Which amp did you like the most? Obviously you were impressed with the Megatone, but if they offered you any amp in the room, what would you have chosen and why?

Personally, I am set with amps at the moment. I have a tweed Champ clone that I built. I also have a Harpgear Double Trouble and a Super Sonny.

I have had plenty of opportunities to buy a big Meteor. I've played them several times. I like them, but its hard to get a clean sound out of it. The big Harp King is too damn big. So, its the Wezo or the Sonny Junior.

If the heavens were to open and bestow me with such a great gift, I would take the Wezo because I haven't had one. The tone is cool. It looks cool and it gets quite loud.

Since, that isn't likely to happen anytime soon. I am completely content with my Super Sonny. I like the sound of a Bassman. It's probably as close to an original sounding Bassman as there is. It has nice tone. It gets as loud as i want to play. It also fits very nicely in the back of my car.

My preferred amp would be a brown 1963 or black 1964 Fender Concert. Very loud and very toneful. Every one that I've played through, I liked.

I would also consider a Harpgear 50 with the 12 and the 10. RJ Mischo is a friend of mine. Regarding amplification, he is a man of very discriminating taste. If he likes an amp, I would be interested in trying one. He likes his latest acquisition.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Joe.

BTW, Your comments and videos on the Double Trouble in another thread played a significant role in my decision to buy one, and I am quite happy with the DT, so thanks for that as well. Amps have a way of multiplying though, lol.

No problem. You can spend a lot of money on amplification. It can be hard to make a decision on such an expensive purchase.

The choices are many. Prior to endorsing the Wezo amp, David Barrett endorsed the Sonny Jr amps. You won't go wrong with any of those choices.

On David Barrett's site, he has video of the amp shootout. It might be worth checking it out.

Yeah, not like one can run down to the local music store to compare these suckers.

I've seen the amp shootout on David's site, but the sound quality of the recording isn't good enough to make feel the sounds are really representative of the amps, other than in the broadest sense. I did find it somewhat helpful in a general sort of way though.

Todd, I saw it in the paid members area of BluesHarmonica.com, if you are a member I believe it is in the equipment section. If not, you could check David's youtube channel, but I took a quick look and didn't see it there.
