Ijust got off a thing that was explaning scales and etc. for harp. this dude got to the point where i had to click it off. He talked about rock, reggae, pop & BLUES... AND USING DOMINANT 7TH. He rambled a few minutes, playing the scale ,than he says," NOW IF YOU WANT TO GET INTO THE SERIOUS MUSIC THE CLASSICS" ok.this dude was from europe and was bought up in the system of western music...when he put blues and everything else that is borrowing from the BLUES down with out knowing it I hade to click it off.NOW serious music,as i see it is any music that has a serious person playing it...
so what do you`all think about this experience, what is SERIOUS MUSIC.......
P.S. I`m from Philly and i was bought up on r&b ,gospel, blues and every thing else that derives from the blues .in America...

Have you ever been to a classical music concert? The audience always looks pretty serious.

Well...I guess a classical violinist might look down on the blues, just as some rockers and blues guys might look down on rap. Corky Siegel has a chambers blues ensemble consisting of him on harp along with some strings, "serious" music meeting the blues. I've played a lot of classical music -- not on harp -- and there is a lot to be appreciated. I like the blues, but I try not to belittle the preferences of others....unless I get really pissed.

really? not including blues in "serious" music has somehow offended you? I get where you are coming from, but, it's a big world full of attitude and perspective.
