I was involved in a discussion recently about Adam’s customization work. It’s not a matter of terrible importance, but I’d just like to know whether I was right..or wrong.
My point was that by my knowledge all Adam does on his MB’s is gapping and tuning. So I concluded these are the most important skills to develop. Is there anybody who can confirm this, or knows more about it? Cheers, Karel
Yes, that's pretty much all I do. I'd hardly call it customization work. It's just a little light tuning, or re-tuning (on older harps that have flatted out a bit) and gapping on some, but not all, reeds. I've never curved a reed or embossed a slot. You can call it quick-and-dirty customization, if you want. It's very primitive stuff. But it's been enough to let me make the music I want--basic overblows and in-tune playing at decent speeds.
Thanks Adam, it's always nice to hear ones right! And of course it's nice I shouldn’t worry about the playing possibilities with my own modest 'customizing job'.
Hey MYLU, can you be a bit more specific on 'flattening the reeds' or do you have some links? Is this doable on MB's without getting the reedplates off the comb?
