There are lots of 12AU7 tubes available, from about $10 to more than $250. Which is the best tone for the money when used in V2 and V3 of a Bassman-type amp?

The $250 12AU7 I saw was a NOS Mullard from the 50s. I won't be ordering one. ;-)

The NOS JAN Philips sells for $20. The new production Tung Sol is $15. I would be willing to bet those are both very good sounding tubes, based on experience with other tubes from each company. Has anybody tried them in this particualar application? (V2 and V3 in a Bassman-type amp)
