Does anyone know the first harp player to do this song?

Nice slow tempo groove on this recording. The band sounds great, but the harp player never plays the head--not even once. He just screws around vamping off of the head, but never actually plays the head note-for-note.
Now, on this tune it can be be tough to take the head through all 3 chord changes. But at least playing it on the I is NBD--not technically difficult, but it does take some discipline. IMHO, to be effective a harp player has to anchor any solo on this tune with playing the signature riff from the head on at least one chord change. If you don't start with the head, that's ok, but then you need to return to it in order to anchor the solo. Otherwise, IMHO, the player is just screwing around.
I'm not big on playing any tune "just like the record" but certain tunes have signature passages and if you don't play that passage note-for-note, you're not actually playing the tune.
This player gets up on the high end for 2 or 3 notes at a time and then moves back down. How cool it would have been if he threw in the signature riff from the head while he was up there, which is very doable. But he just moved right back down without developing any musical ideas in the upper register. Some of the lower and middle register licks sounded very cool but IMHO the soloing and filling AS A WHOLE had not enough coherence in relation to the tune--which, btw, is a GREAT tune for harp. Just my take on it, FWIW.

Yeah, I'm kind of in the same boat with hvyj. When I hear this song, I just really want to hear the main riff played. I find myself playing it quite frequently.
It's a really good exercise in hitting 2 half step bend and your 3 whole step bend in succession.
