Simon Cowell is nothing but a parasite who has done more damage to music in recent years than anyone.

X Factor is in the toilet over here and I hope this puts the nail in the coffin for him.

Thanks Mr V. Posted on my FB wall.

I can see when people or companies worry that others using their trademark are going to cause them to lose business, but in this case, how could Cowell or his record company possibly think that a charity using that name would impact his business? I'm pretty sure that in US business law, there is some kind of carve out or safe harbor, when the smaller company is in a completely unrelated business they're allowed to continue to use the name, but I could be mistaken about that.

How easy would it be for Cowell to go to the charity and say "we've trademarked the name but I'm giving you permission to use that name permanently, in writing." Then again, from catching his act on American Idol a few times, he doesn't come off as the most compassionate guy in the world.

This kind of bullying fits right in though, with a music business culture that compels someone kid on YT trying to give a music lesson of some kind, to pull his video for copyright reasons. (I've seen that happen multiple times)

Speaking of Idol, for all the ratings, hype, blah, blah, blah...it's really only produced one bonafide star with staying power as far as I can tell. Carrie Underwood. Which just goes to show, it takes more than just having a good singing voice to be a long lasting A-list musical artist. I guess most of the TV audience watches for the spectacle, not the music.

No FB, otherwise I'd post it as well. Good luck with it.

Just discussing it here helps. People need to know. X-factor is trying to keep this out of the news. On an X-factor spin-off show, the band Rizzle Kicks tried to mention the charity but were stopped dead by the presenters and floor managers.

I'm pretty sure most people here have a similar opinion about X-factor, but I really think the world should know just how low Simon Cowell is prepared to stoop.

Memo to self: Read the link BEFORE posting next time.

I got some of the story wrong, the charity ALREADY HAS the trademark, Cowell's group is trying to circumvent that. It would seem like a slamdunk case for the charity, but I'm well aware of the "throw enough money at it to tie it up in court for a while, because the oppostion has shallow/no pockets" strategy.

Which makes the case of bullying even worse.

Unbelievable (actually, quite believable). I'd say hopefully Idol and X-factor crash and burn soon, but as for Idol, though ratings have fallen from it's initial season, it's still a ratings monster.

Sometimes there is no justice.
