Back in NOLA this weekend through monday night. Visiting Junior.

I'm not sure what we'll be doing - but there will be at least some nights of music -that's for sure.

I'd like recomendations for funky - out of the way clubs with live music.

I know and love Frenchman St. , MId City Lanes, and have been to the Candelight lounge on Wed. night to hear the Treme Marching Band. - that was amazing. I'm looking for more way off of Burbon St. places to hear 'the shit'

Haven't been to Vaughan's yet , - is Mother in Law's still in buis. ?

Any CCHClub guys playing around ? Cant' swear I'll make it - but I'd like to know - and try to if I can.

thanks

Let me check around and see-I won't be out and about this weekend due to family obligations, so I haven't been paying attention. I'll post some info for you later. If Major Bacon is playing, I'll highly recommend going to see them, and bring your harps. Tell Eloise(bass player)or Dave Renson(guitarist)I sent you. This was Pat Ramsey's band, with the exception of a different drummer. Dave is an absolute blast to play harp with, and he's very accomodating to us harpophiles, having backed Pat Ramsey for so many years until his passing.

EDIT: The only gig I see for them this weekend is Sunday at Bourbon Saloon on Bourbon Street, which is semi-walkable from the Marigny if you're feeling sprightly. I'll dig for more...

I am in Vegas, but I will be back Sunday, so I haven,t paid attention to what is goin on. However, here are a couple of regular events.

A must see performance is Andy J. Forest at BMC, which is on the corner of Esplanade and Decatur. I think he is starting at 6:00 now. Also, at Cafe Negril is John Lise, starting at 8:00 I think. John is who Jason was playing with when he was here. Also, Mojito Station is on Frenchman too, and they have a lot of music, some of it real good.

email me, and I will search the happenings when I get back

Teddy's Juke Joint def. sounds like it'd be worth a drive -- Maybe for the Blue Monday party. Hopefully Jr. will be up for it.

Major Bacon for Happy Hour, - and Andy J Forrest are both on my list now too.

Thanks guys, I'll check the thread again after I get in.

Also, Saturday night as Blue Nile, Andy plays with Wasboard Chaz Trio-good stuff. If having to choose between that and his own band, go the 'own band' route...J.D.Hill and the Jammers are at St. Roch Tavern Saturday night, as well. J.D. is a local legend, sort of.

My son dragged me to John Boutte tonight @ DBA- I was going to check out the jd & the jammers - Boutte was a treat though. Like spending a night with Sam Cooke in an intimate club . Also saw Panorama at the spotted cat. Klezmer Jazz - nice too. Hope to get to major bacon maƱana - and out to teddys juke joint Monday.

I didn't make it to Teddy's Juke Joint in Zachery this trip - maybe next. I did find a great band in a great dive bar in Bywater though.

King James and the Special Men. Quintisential NOLA Blues with a swampy deep pocket groove. Tenor and Bari Saxes plus guitars and a good piano player - and JImmy "king james" Horn fronting (and playng guitar) - and cooking up his own Red Beans for you to boot. He's got a sort of Dr. John voice and approach - but still has the boozy fun energy going.

Not harp friendy unfortunately -at least not with someone they didn't know. I was dying to jump on their groove but Jimmy wasn't down with it. - I loved them anyway and will be going to see them next time I'm in town. -- Oh, the bar is BJ's and they are there every monday night.
