My friend Sean Carney just finished a european tour with his band and had Omar Colaman with him. Sean called me today told me he is back home and has his band with him and wanted to bring omar and his bass player from france by my house to hang out. I was really touched that one of the up and coming young bluesmen stays connected with me and wanted his band to meet me. We got to talking and they will be by my house thursday. I am going to do some texas BBQ and record them in my studio. I am excited. This will be my first engineering experience with someone else other than me. Hopefully they will get something out of it that will be sellable. I don't want anything out of it finacially. these guys need all the support they can get and I sure had tons of stuff like this that kept me afloat back when I was doing 200+ dates a year.

I feel for the young players. They have it 100 times harder than my age did. Sean played at my party in august, left for a canadien tour and then off to europe. All said and done he is surviving. I know how hard he works to keep the calendar full. More to follow. Walter

thanks for that link Joe. I gave his music a listen. He has a classic blues voice and plays some good harp. Hopefully I can capture some good sounds on thursday. Walter

I just saw Omar on Sunday had a nice long talk with him, we exchanged cards. I am hoping he is town for our Sonny Jr amp demo, we'll have three of them Cruncher, Super and an Avenger. So far I've got four harp players lined up for an informal get together in Delaware, Ohio. I don't have a date yet because Dan Dial's Avenger hasn't arrived yet. It's an open house if anyone is interested.

Hi Tom: Thanks for the note! Tell Mark that Mark Rubinstien is now running the recording engineering program at ohio state. He lives 30 minutes away. Mark played keys, accordian, and bass with me often and maybe mark played drums with us at one point. We have done a good amount of visiting, playing and recording together since he moved here. He has engineered on many platinum and grammy records and ran sugar hill studios in NJ for a few years. Andrew Halbriech uses Jim Starboard on drums for gigs and recordings. He keeps me updated on things down austin way. Those nights playing the bill with the H-Bombs at the black cat lounge are legendary in that era of austin. A black cat lounge reunion show would be a great time. Have fun at your gig.
Lonesome harpman: I hope your gig goes well. I will mention it to Omar but I don't know you real name. I hate that about these forums. Walter

@Walter - Like Lonesome, I saw Omar on Sunday at the CBA Jam. He's a good player with a great blues voice and stage presence.

@LonesomeHarpman - Hey Ted....I didn't know your handle on here. I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Avenger. Hope it will be here this week yet, but no word.

I was thinking that in addition to the Avenger, I'd bring my pedal board (Lone Wolf setup) and my Kalamazoo. If we're doing amplified comparisons, we might as well have a full buffet to try out. What do you think?

we are now up to a full band for the session. Sean on guitar, his french bassist, omar on harp, and seans uncle on drums. His uncle is way old school chess records groove. Omar and I talked on the phone this afternoon and he is going to do a lot of acoustic harp via the same mic much like I do most of the time and for amped harp I am going to run him direct into an old altec lansing mixer/preamp. I get some pretty cool vintage sounds out of it. I can't wait till tomorrow. I hope they play good, which I am sure they will, but am really hoping I can capture the sound well. Walter
